The work process
Producing a panel starts with the design, this is called the 'cartoon'. Once I have my design I make a tracing paper copy of it. I choose the stained glass I am going to use and cut each piece of glass using the tracing paper copy as a template. All the glass pieces are then ground to smooth the edges. Then each piece of glass is copperfoiled around the edges, this is a special copper adhesive tape. The pieces are then soldered together to make the panel. I also edge my panels with lead to make them more sturdy and robust.
A panel can take up to 30 hours to produce from start to finnish, not including the design stage. Some of my panels have kiln fused or painted elements as part of the design.
